How to install our TYPO3 templates
Please notice: This HowTo has been updated for the new version 6 of TYPO3 CMS. It will still work with older versions, but you might encounter some differences. Be careful and prudent. Some steps are a little different for older versions and you need to get the correct packages!
Before you begin, download a copy of the TYPO3 Source. Make sure you download the Source package. Our template will add everything else. Then download the template from our site. After the TYPO3 sources are in place, upload all files from the zip-archive of our template. It is essential that you do that before you start the installation routine of TYPO3. Our template cannot be installed afterwards. Please overwrite all files when prompted (will most likely not happen), it is safe to do so. The installation process is pretty straight-forward. See the step-by-step tutorial below.
Invoke the Install Tool
As usual when installing TYPO3, the Install Tool is invoked automatically when you point your browser to the domain or directory where you just copied the TYPO3 sources to. One additional step is available in the Install Tool of TYPO3. If you get error messages instead of the Install Tool, read the documentation on how to install TYPO3 and on how to prepare a webserver properly. It has nothing to do with our template. If an original TYPO3 installs properly, our templates will do likewise. Click the "Continue" button to proceed with the installation.
Connect to database server
TYPO3 needs a database to store settings, pages and content. At this point, the Install Tool needs to know the Username, Password and Host for the database server. Please enter this data as received from your hosting company.
Your hosting company might allow you to create more than one databases in your account. We recommend, that you create a new database for TYPO3 before installation. Make sure the MySQL connection collation is set to UTF-8.
Double check if the data you've entered is correct, then click Continue.
Select a database
We recommend that you do not create a new database is this step, it is better to do it using the web interface provided by your hosting company. You might not have the right to create new databases and if try to do so, it might lead to errors. So please create a new database before you install TYPO3 and choose this empty database from the list.
If the database you've just created does not show up in this list, there is something wrong with your database connection, and it absolutely makes no sense to proceed, please fix this problem first.
Choose a package
In this step you choose the package you wish to install. You have two choices here. If you want to install our YAML for TYPO3 package, please select the first option. You could also choose to install an empty (blank) system, but then of course no template is installed and the result is the same as if you would not have used our template in the first place.
Enter a password
By default the admin password is password and the Install Tool password is joh316. These standard passwords are well-known everywhere, so it is a high security risk to not change them immediately. Therefore the script now asks you for a new password. Please enter a password which cannot be easily guessed.
The script applies this password to all backend users and to the Install Tool itself. So please don't forget it. Of course you should change the passwords again with the standard TYPO3 tools. We recommend to change passwords on a regular basis, to prevent unauthorized access to your system.
You are done!
If you see this screen, the installer completed its work and your new system is ready to use. Congratulations, click the button "Go to your website" and you should be able to see it already. Login to the backend of TYPO3 by simply adding typo3/ to the end of the URL.
But, wait a minute. Although the script tries its best to figure out the optimal settings for you system, it is possible that Image Processing or realURL does not work yet. Use an FTP-Client, open the file typo3conf/settings/yamltv600x.ts and check if the constants domain, absRefPrefix and tx_realurl_enable were set correctly by the install-script. If image processing doesn't work correctly, use the TYPO3 Install Tool and check all settings for that.
